Can’t Buy Me Love

Service of Nine Lessons and Carols

Inspired by A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, which is the Christmas Eve service held in King’s College Chapel in Cambridge, England, we will hear nine readings from the Christian scriptures, paired with traditional Christmas carols and special anthems performed by UUCC’s Chalice Choir and friends.

Lament and Hope

In the middle of a holiday season in which messages of brightness and cheer prevail, Rev. Paige Getty and Worship Associate Cynthia Marshall offer a service of lament and hope — inviting worshipers to name their deep sorrows and griefs, and then inviting us together to choose hope even in the face of despair.

Exploring Beloved Community

In June 2023, UUCC adopted new statements of Values, Mission, and Ends, which reference the congregation’s Beloved Community Resolution from 2020. In this service, we will explore the origins of the Beloved Community concept and what it means for UUCC to be committed Building Beloved Community.

Embracing the Light Within |

Join us for a special Unitarian Universalist Diwali holiday service, where we will celebrate the annual Festival of Lights. Diwali (also known as Deepavali, meaning “row of lights”) represents the triumph of light over darkness and the unity of diverse traditions. The musical ensemble TVAMEVA will be our guests, and will explore universal themes of hope, love and inner light through shared stories and music.

In our annual tradition, we honor the memories of loved ones who have died with poetry, special music, candle-lighting and the speaking of names. As is our tradition, we will light candles in memory of loved ones who have died. You are invited to bring photos or small memorial objects to place on the altar table.

Embodied Love | Reverend Paige Getty

“UUCC embodies love in action,” declares the congregation’s new mission statement. In Our Whole Lives, we teach our students of all ages that their bodies are sacred and worthy. As a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association, we promise we will “cherish Earth and all beings by creating and nurturing relationships of care and respect.” In this service, Rev. Paige Getty and others invite us to explore what it means to be embodied, and to embody love as an act of faith.

Our Time to Thrive

In honor of LGBTQ+ History Month, UUCC celebrates the beautiful diversity of queerness in our religious community, and we recommit ourselves to solidarity with all who remain at very real risk because of who they beautifully, queerly are.
