With four months remaining in her ministry with us, Rev. Paige Getty — drawing inspiration especially from John O’Donohue’s writing about thresholds in his collection To Bless the Space Between Us — reflects on opportunities that are unique to times of transition.

Whose Loaves and Fishes?

In this service, Rev. Paige Getty and UUCC Executive Director Valerie Hsu explore dimensions of generosity* through the Christian biblical story of the feeding of the 5,000 — using not only a scriptural version, but also contemporary, first-world retellings. Through stories and reflections, they’ll ask us all to consider where we see ourselves and UUCC in this provocative story.

Curiously Pluralistic

Unitarian Universalism is a pluralistic religious tradition, and pluralism is one of the six shared values named in the proposed revision of the UUA’s Article II*. In this worship service, Rev. Paige Getty will explore what it means to actively celebrate “that we are all sacred beings, diverse in culture, experience, and theology.”

Embodying Care

UUCC embodies love in action. At the heart of our identity as a religious community is our care for each other — care that strengthens and nourishes us to embody love in the world. In this service, we celebrate the ways that UUCC congregants care for one another in formal and informal ways, and especially through the Karuna Ministry of lay pastoral caregiving.

Don't Believe Everything You Think

As part of living into our call to create Beloved Community, we must trust that people will be still and bear witness to us, acknowledge and accept what we share of our experience. We also must be present with one another with an empathy that honors our different life experiences. CB Beal will share about the spiritual practice of setting aside what we think, bearing witness, and trusting others to bear witness to us.

In this auction raffle service, Rev. Paige Getty and congregant Becky Reese explore the wonder (and maybe even awe) of trees and forests through facts, images and experiences.

Lost&Found...And

Rev. Paige Getty will offer reflections inspired by Kathryn Schulz’s recent memoir (Lost & Found), in which the writer explores death and grief and love — unpacking the varied ways to understand what it means to lose and to find, and what we do in response to what has been lost and found (i.e., “And”.).

An Angrier King

Rev. Paige Getty and UUCC’s Tina Horn, who serves on the Howard County Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission, will share stories and lessons from Dr. King’s later years, when he was angrier, more agitational, and arguably more prophetic.
